We use oil all of the time. From toothpaste to tennis rackets to gasoline, oil is a very important piece of world economics. But the unfortunate truth is unfolding: the world is running out of oil. With approximately 109,200,000,000,000 [109.2 trillion] gallons of oil [2.6 trillion barrels], 1.7 trillion barrels have been discovered but not extracted from the ground, and U.S. scientists suspect that there are still 900 billion barrels still are in the ground, and undiscovered. 2.6 trillion barrels may be considered a lot of oil to some people, but actually, the worlds average daily oil consumption is 80,727,420 barrels per day! That would last us for32,207 days. Oil is starting to be extracted from a special type of rock called oil shale. The process is very expensive, but is starting to be used more often than before. The shale has to be heated to 900 degrees Fahrenheit! Now thats hot! Scientistists are working on a) finding more oil and b) more fuel types and resorces.

Dear Bob,

I write in great despair, for Kemal Ataturk [the president of Turkey] has just passedaway. Here I have included a picture of him on the cover of a magazine, from your country, called Time Magazine.

Many will agree that he was tough to deal with at times, but over all was an outstanding leader. I remember him stating in one of his orations,

“The humankind is consisted of two sexes, woman and man. Is it possible that a mass is improved by the improvement of only one part and ignore other? Is it possible that if half of a mass is tied to earth with He chains and the other half can soar into skies?”

After the end of WWI, our country was the only remains of the Ottoman Empire, which was divided up by Britain, France, and Italy. Of course, as you may have assumed,Kemal Ataturk became our president. In 1925, appeared wearing a brimmed hat and other Western style clothing.announced that all Turkish men must wear that kind of hat as well. To enforce this new dress code, he passed a law banning the wear of a fez.

Many people thought it was an outrage, including me. After a while things settled down and people started to like the Western style clothing. The womans dress code was also changed. Women used to wear veils to conceal their faces, but President Ataturk banned the wearing of them too. He made numerous chages besides the fezzes and veils. He moved the capitol of Turkey from Ankara to Istanbul. President Ataturk furthermore altered our alphabet, changing it to the Roman alphabet. Merely 3 months later, he commanded that all street signs, news papers, and books all be printed in the new characters.

I hope to write to you again soon, hopefully in a better mood.

                                                             Your Friend,
